That’s a weird way of thinking. Lots of kids apply to lots of schools that they don’t necessarily want to go to. And they get into some and not others.
Uh huh. Sure.
You sound like you haven’t gone through this yet. You’ll see.
Yes, I have. And more than once. My kids applied to plenty of schools that they knew they’d get into and did but never really would have wanted to go to—but not to any that they didn’t think they’d get into but didn’t want to go to anyway. Because that’s really weird and a waste of time.

Kids are applying to anywhere between 12 and 20 schools. They're applying to reach schools, target schools, and safety schools. You'd be a buffoon to think that they aren't applying to schools they have no intention of going to, even if it is UVA. A kid that's applying to every single HYPSM or a ultra high stats/high EC value kid is certainly NOT aiming for UVA.

Idk if my kid would have gotten in or not because UVA is a tough admit in our area, but we had no defensive thinking going on. UVA was just not high on his list. It hovered at the bottom, had come off but went back on when they removed supplementals. He pulled his EA app to UVA when he got into his top choice ED- a highly selective school with a lower admit rate than UVA.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I think they're going to have lower yield this year because they did not require any supplemental essays. My kid almost applied just for that reason but then realized they don't actually want to go to UVA.
That is not how yield works.
