As someone who has just gone through the high school admissions process and has a kid about to graduate a K-8, I think there's a lot of value for middle schoolers in going to school that ends in 8th grade. These schools tend to provide a lot of opportunities for their middle schoolers. I also look at the HS application process as a learning experience. My kid learned a lot about prepping for standardized tests, interviews and evaluating schools. I really think they will be better prepared for the college application process in a few years and that the lifers at the K-12s will be at a disadvantage.

I know of at least one child counseled out of HM very young due to behavior.

TTs will also counsel you out if their screening failed to identify you as annoying non-rich parents. (You don't have to be rich, but you do have to play nice with the administration.)

There's no set goal or percentage. Kids who do poorly after getting support get counseled out. Frankly, I find that kids who are screened want to do well because those are the values of their parents, and the reason that particular school was chosen.

The kids that I know of who left my DD's TT school were ultra-wealthy kids who did not want to do the work.
