You want strange? In Wisconsin, parents (as well as legal guardians and spouses 21 and older) can purchase alcohol for minors to consume, even in public. Yes, minors can drink in bars and restaurants in Wisconsin. Yes, I've seen it. There is no minimum age, either.

Which is how I guy I went to undergrad with managed to collect 4 DUIs before his 21st birthday. The 5th one we got a week after turning 21 landed him in county lock-up for a week--but with work release so he could attend class.

Interesting! Canadian here - most bars won't even allow people in at 12:01am when it's technically their birthday. Something about liquor service schedules being counted as one day I think.
