For ds, as I said, the manifestation of whatever he has is irritability, self involvement and inflexibility (not about routines, but about doing what he wants to do). He does need a lot of decompression time and has weak interoception capabilities and poor emotional regulation.
ASD is such a mystery to me at this point in terms of 'what it is', but I'm guessing maybe it is this. It's confusing bc as i said, it doesn't feel like he is culturally distinct from other 12 yo boys. Just at home, is difficult.
Have you looked into PDA?
op - i once followed the facebook page but was immediately turned off by the fact that it seemed to be 99% populated by people who were like 'my kid refuses to go to school/ wash/ eat anything but jello/ brush their hair so i just let them be that way but it's not working out great'.
My point being, empathetic as I might be if that is indeed the case, I dont fundamentally believe that the 'a' is the way to go.
