This is great to hear, PP! Congrats to your kid!

Just returned from their admitted students day and I was pleasantly surprised. It was all it appeared to be on paper and more. We were first introduced to it on a YCBK college spotlight. First the city was great and the campus is right in a nice part of the city yet it has an enclosed campus. Their merit aid can be extended to a fifth year of college if necc, they have $10,000 grants if the student wants to take a class in the summer, they have six month co-ops where student works for a semester and receives salary ranging from $20-$30 per hour plus six credits. There are a number of single room dorms with community bathrooms or jack and Jill setups. Great calm feel on campus. Quite diverse too. Statistically the campus is about 50% white and the rest is a good mix of Asian, Hispanic and Black. Different faiths (saw a few young ladies in hijab). And people were just plain nice. Everyone spoke highly of their professors and there just seems to be ALOT of support all around. We are east coast but DC loves Chicago so DC will be fine if it turns out to be hard to get jobs on the east coast. Looking at the housing costs in St Louis, though, one could easily afford to buy a condo in their 20s and the restaurants and services (like manicures) seem to be really affordable. We loved SLU and St. Louis.

But, if students are open to living in St. Louis, the great thing about St. Louis is that it’s a beautiful place with a low cost of living.

No. But hasn’t ruled it out. Of acceptances thus far, it’s the cheapest out-of-pocket.
