You are lucky that you have good coaches. Ours are either embarrassingly bad, mean or a combo of both. I have yet to meet a skilled coach at our HS

I am shocked by how negative the parents have been across the board, but mostly very critical of the coaches. I don't understand why. We had decent coaches, all great people to be around. Some winning seasons and some not, but no matter, a majority of parents complained incessantly. I stood up for the coaches often, but eventually I tried to sit alone. Over 6 years, maybe 3 kids were recruited, so the stakes weren't high. Anyone else dealt with this? I'll miss watching my kids play but glad to get away from the negativity in the bleachers.

That’s 100% anxiety

Favored kids are usually those who work hard and have athletic talent. There's a reason they are favorites. Unless you are insinuating something else?

That’s how it should be. However, I think the most favored kids have parents with influence.

In my kids' experience, they've been low key fun. Way better than the club stuff, imho.

Easy to say if your kid is having a good experience but when their HS is making them sick because of favoritism and politics then it does matter. They only get one HS experience!

Agree, not my experience, and my kid goes to one of the schools just mentioned. The coaches are fantastic, above and beyond with their time.

Absolutely insinuating something else. Favoritism has no place in team sports or any sports.

Fairfax, West Springfield, and Woodson have parents of players coaching teams. Kids on those teams have to be nice to the coach’s sons and be positive. Children are learning about govt and corporate politics as part of their high school education.

Don’t forget Robinson.

Agree the coaches are often parents and often their only qualification is having played the sport in their youth (if that.)

The Woodson AD hired and kept terrible coaches. He got pushed to another school because he punched another staff member. Maybe some coaches will be fired now?

I agree with the favoritism, low maturity level and being overall unskilled. It's not surprising though as most aren't qualified to be a coach and usually the AD isn't qualified either. It's a public school so we get what we can pay for. Stand outs are those where the families can invest in their kid's talent. My DD's coach was too busy trying to re-live her HS days and be "cool". She favors the girls that are in one of her classes, even though these girls are not talented in the sport. It has ruined the school team to where I'm not even sure the sport will be around in a few years. But hey, she's collecting a check by doing the bare minimum.
