Utter nonsense. By then, they'll have internalized the thought that breaking the law is just fine with no consequences. Taunt the police knowing that they'll be accused of mistreatment if they attempt to arrest, etc.

That makes no sense. Of COURSE there is political will and there will be more because they did this in a fancy neighborhood instead of on a highway or a big intersection with only strip malls as immediate neighbors. This isn’t about soft on crime, it’s kids designing an activity to make thrill videos and be intentionally hard to police. The police will have to respond with a lot of resources and coordination. The one cruiser who was there can’t do anything about it.

Things like street takeovers and the bike gangs in DC are really tough to police in the moment. It's not like these teenagers and young men on wheels are going to quietly stop and surrender. Many likely have guns too.

But absolutely everything is recorded and all over social media. If there's the political will, detectives and police work can track these idiots down. I have no family members or friends in law enforcement so I don't know what the procedures are. And it's frustrating watching the video of the cop car essentially driving around doing nothing.


He didn't do nothing! He called for backup and he kept everyone safe without hurting anyone.

I don't know what the policing solution for this is, I think it involves considerable planning and surveillance and a lot of officers, but it's definitely not going to be solved by the one cruiser who happened to be nearby and it seems to me like this officer did amazingly well in a bad situation, and put himself at risk to keep things from escalating.

I watched the linked video and I don't know how we got such good cops but I hope that guy gets some kind of award. Totally kept his cool.

I don't know what you do about this - probably you form some kind of task force, use social media to track them, and arrive with enough people to arrest enough of them to make it unappealing.

Those kids are such idiots but especially the one without a mask.

I never understand what exactly the cops are supposed to do in these situations. If they do nothing, lawlessness abides. If they arrest the kids, it will likely require force, like wrestling them to the ground for which they'll be sued. What a great idea for society. Let teens think they can do whatever they want with no consequences. Then they become adults who think that's the way it should be.
