The sum total of info about SMCM in that thread is that the campus is charming, remote, and it’s nice if you like outdoor activities.

This is a good summary. It's a solid education at a fantastic price point.

We thought it was a great potential school for our current senior. A good woke, progressive atmosphere where students can learn and question without restrictions. DS receives what SMCM called a presidential scholarship that covered most of the (already impressively low for MD in state) tuition.

DS had some concerns about it being remote, but not major concerns. He ultimately chose a different liberal arts school bit we were all impressed with SMCM.

I’m surprised by this. We went for an open house weekend and found the food mediocre. And none of us are particularly picky.

I had no clue furries were a top concern of the anti-woke contingency. This is exactly why we ask you all to give more specifics when using that generic term. Glad you were willing to spell out your foolishness.

My daughter was pondering but no nursing program sealed the deal.

At one of the open houses last year, they mentioned a ‘weekend charter bus’ option to BWI was coming. This would be a game changer.

Perhaps you could expand on what you’re looking for or seeking to avoid from a college. Unclear from just passing use of the word “woke.”

I mean are most of the students woke? Would a conservative feel comfortable openly sharing his or her opinions without being ostracized by classmates?

Can people refuse to recognize inequities in our society with no consequences?

Good God. This is exactly the kind of drivel most normal applicants are looking to avoid.

+1. Yes - many parents want their kids to avoid woke schools, pronouns, furries, socialism, etc.

Talk about drivel…

I’m sure you can figure out on your own whether students at SMCM, or any other school for that matter is involved in furries, since that is apparently a primary issue of concern.

Oh please! I don’t know this poster and I can tell you exactly what she doesn’t want. You are just being argumentative because you don’t like that some people don’t want a “woke” school.

I've only heard good things about it. (Except the comment above where some students think the biology program has a "weed out" atmosphere.) Not good because biology is a big draw there. I also take everything with a grain of salt.

Here is an article about English professor Jennifer Cognard-Black to illustrate how closely faculty work with students. (She is still there according to web page.)
