My DC opened his checking account around age 16. I am a custodian on it. DC is now 21 and I'm still "on" the account and can monitor it. I rarely do at this point.
My main account is with Bank of America and DC's is with BOA as well. Not that they are "the best" by any means -- that's just where the accounts are.
Why are you monitoring their account? Did your parents monitor yours?
I said I still "can" monitor, but "rarely do". Did you read that part? I check it like once every 2 months to make sure a bill got paid, esp. when it is coming after break.
And, yes, I'm sure my parents actually did when they opened my paper bank statements that were delivered to the house in the 80s and 90s when I was in college. Just because the Internet didn't exist yet, there were ways to do things in the past.
