I just want to be able to capture quality video of anything that I might find helpful or important. I also what to be able to view it easily. Any advice would be great. Thank you in advance.

If your car has an auto-dimming rearview mirror, you can probably wire a dash cam to it using an inexpensive adapter. That mostly solves the wiring problem. Otherwise, you have to run wires somewhere to provide power to the camera. You can get kits that have multiple cameras depending on your need. For instance, you can also have a rear view camera. That will require even more wires however. Most camera record to an SD card, but if your camera gets stolen, so does your video. If this is a concern, you might want a camera that uploads to cloud storage.

As for brands, I am partial to VIOFO and have purchased three of their cameras. If you are looking for a high-quality, but basic camera, I recommend the VIOFO A119 Mini 2 which costs about $100.

Jeff - for front and back 2k viofo could only find a renewed one at $120 on amzn. still good buy? thx

Which model are you looking at? You might also check out Viofo's website. They are having a father's day sale now.

A129 Plus Duo. official site sold out/discontinued. only deal is VIOFO A229 @$200 and too much for me. i'm cheap haha.

The A129 Plus Duo is fine. I have the A229 Pro which is two versions newer and I like it a lot. You might want to compare the price of the 129 to the A229 Plus on Amazon and see if the difference is affordable. That would move you up to 4k. But the A129 will work for you. You will probably want to update the firmware as soon as you get it because there are probably much newer versions out now.

Prime Day has new A129 Plus Duo at $140, might just pull the trigger. 70mais are so much cheaper though, 4k dual only $80 new… worth a look?

I don't know anything about 70mai cameras. You can check this forum that has a lot of info about different brands:

https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/

One thing to watch for in cheaper cameras is whether they have a battery instead of a supercapacitor. The Viofos have supercapacitors. The problem with batteries is that they don't deal well with very hot or very cold temperatures. A car that is left outside will be exposed to both. Therefore, the battery will probably not last long.

Great tip yeah the car will be street park so do get hhhhooootttt!!!! Thx Jeff!

You are 100% wrong about this. You may be thinking about the reverse camera, which is required, but dash cams are not required and are infrequently offered as a factory option.
