Nope. We have a couple we pass regularly and they are all still up and running and normal.

Harassment. Property destruction.

We’re on a corner. Ours gets a lot.

Weird thing, we ran out of the big stack of “old” books we had to get rid of, and only put about 1-2 books a month in it now, but other people drop stuff off in it all the time. It’s almost always at least half-full

How is that weird? That's literally the point of the LFLs.

I’m on the paranoid side and I would be worried someone would use it for a drug exchange. That’s the liability I’d be worried about.

This is what I was wondering about!

She didn’t say. She just said “targeted”.

I got banned for 3 days for allegedly promoting violence. I asked for a copy of the msg when I appealed and all I did was describe a traffic incident that everyone on the local sub was talking about. I also said the police had told a family member who reported it they wanted to hear from any possible victims. It was auto-flagged. I wonder if anyone ever wins a reddit appeal, this was not the local mod.

Redditors don't make mistakes.

We don’t have one, but the one in our development at the bus stop was clearly targeted by some MAGA person. They kept stuffing it with printouts of political screeds. DH made a point of clearing it out of anything not bound once a week. Then, someone emptied it entirely and smashed the latch.

Only ones I see in Arlington are by sidewalks or trails. No poop inside.

I've never had any issues with mine. It's within reach of the sidewalk and I've only had people add normal books to it, never any trash and it's held up fine. I have more of an issue with coming on my property to pick the persimmons.

Who is visiting a LFL in this weather?

Yes, I would take it down as well.

Anonymous wrote:Liability - people can get hurt on your property. Parent complain about LFL giving their kid splinters, or the door squeezed their fingers. Or they object to the reading material as inappropriate. And on and on.

Targeted - LFL have all kinds of junk dumped on them. Old textbooks, religious pamphlets, political materials. And LFL owners tend to be liberal (I say tend to be, but that's putting it mildly. In reality I don't know a single conservative/Republican LFL owner.). So your LFL could be targeted by conservatives. Not to mention old fashioned teen vandals.

As a conservative, I have enough to do that I don't need to vandalize other people's property. More importantly, it would be a crime.

No, but I wish they would. They're all filled with garbage, literally trash both the books and actual trash like empty coffee cups, dog poop bags, kids underwear...

Not to mention they're mostly rotting wood, crooked, leaking ceilings, missing doors and
completely unkept.

We can't have any nice things anymore. So take them down!
