DCUM introduced me to the middle age I don’t care club. It was the best thing ever.

Judge me and my cheap clothes all you want. I really don’t care. Like many adults, I’m on a shot and rapidly losing so I’m not spending much on clothes right now. I’m looking a bit rough.

One of my teens is in expensive clothes because as a typical teen, that’s important to her. So be it. The other teen has never been that into clothes.

Judge away.

Do you know goth moms and dads? I’m guessing you don’t. There’s a reason these phenomena are associated with youth culture, so no, I would never judge the parents since it has nothing to do with them. Nor the kids themselves, since they’re just being kids.

Having raised two teens, one thing I totally respect in other parents is those who embrace these phases in their kids. They don’t shame them or crop them out of the family photos. Unconditional love is truly admirable.

These are weird as hell questions, OP. What's your end game? Didn't you learn Psych 101? Teens rebel against their parents. It's how they form their individuality.

I couldn’t care less what clothes people wear. Well to be honest I do judge when I see something dumb like expensive sneakers when I know the family doesn’t have much money. But I guess that’s the opposite of what you’re talking about.

I couldn't tell designer clothes, but I am confused about one mom who often posts on our local parents Facebook group her used designer kid clothes asking like over $100 for "lightly used" toddler air Jordans and $200 used kids jeans, insert fancy label here. Like why do those clothes exist for humans who are growing so quickly?

For context almost all the other used clothes and shoes in this neighborhood are either free porch pickup, often by the bag, or maybe $10-20 max.

I was raised not to judge people based on what they wore.

I've always loved fashion. I love to shop at thrift and high end. My sons are a mixed bag. My spouse can clean up nicely but he buys his clothes from Costco. I don't care what anyone else looks like.

I was reading Edith's Wharton's The Buccaneers.
The English landed gentry thought the Americans' clothing was too new.
