Done anything like it but have now made various items which I love wearing and get compliments on. As someone else noted, it means I don’t look at my phone which is really helping my mental health.

Listen to audio books as much as possible to get your mind off things. They're free through your library through Libby, and you have to return them in 2-3 weeks so that motivates me to finish them.

I know you said no arts and crafts but I started doing diamond art and it’s been very relaxing. It’s very meditative to do the same repetitive activity over and over, really calms the mind. I don’t do it for the artistic purpose, only to take my mind off the various things I’m stressed about. I also like doing large puzzles (500-1000 pieces); bought a puzzle table.

I haven't seen bird watching but that's a great idea. I have seen their photography ones, which is another great hobby.

I would recommend crochet or knitting. To me those are not "crafty". I think of crafts as more like scrapbooking or using a hot glue gun. Crochet and knitting get your mind of things because they require concentration to learn and there is a progression so you can keep going. You don't plateau quickly such that it becomes mindless (you can but you don't have to).

I would also recommend bird watching. It is another thing that you can do online or from your home windows in this terrible weather and then branch out. Starting now is good timing because the birds will be migrating in a few weeks, so enough time to learn some basics and then put it into action. The Great Courses has some excellent basic bird watching lectures. This also gets you outside in nature and some exercise which can help with what you are describing as your issues.

When my state went legal for marijuana I moved from growing vegetables every year to growing weed.

Originally I paid I think $10 per feminized seed and you couldn’t even guarantee they’d germinate … but I was so good at it that now I have dried cured marijuana everywhere in my house. I not only ran out of containers to store it all in but I ran out of places to store the containers. I was even re-using those giant cheese-puff containers and completely filled them with perfectly good pot. If I had to put all those containers into trash bags I’d probably have 4 trash bags full.

And because life finds a way, now I produce my own seeds. Marijuana makes for great gifts. My favorite is making infused butter every year for such gifts. Special cupcakes and brownies, etc.
