Fordham’s abbreviation is good.

UVM bugs me — if using first letters, it should be UV, if using state abbreviations it should be UVT, but I guess they wanted to use syllables and come up with UVM.

people here use VT for Virginia Tech which is state abbreviation Vermont

Postal codes are not the same as abbreviations. One could say the abbreviation for Virginia Tech is Va. Tech.

UConn, UMass, UDel, and Ole Miss use the old-style postal codes.

We always called it UD when I was there not UDel.

Not to mention the official name is Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Should be VPISU lol.

UVM is based on the Latin for University of the Green Mountains, Universitas Viridis Montis

This is cool.

Vermont actually comes from French, like a PP stated: les verts monts

If you don’t like UGA then you also don’t like UMD.

Or UMN

Although to be fair, there are so many M states that using the state abbreviations instead of just M is much better.

Except for Michigan, who uses UM or UofM.

In Massachusetts everyone refers to the state school as UMass (often with the city attached, e.g. Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth). Less confusing.

Army has theee options - it's the United States Miltary Academy (USMA), which is located in West Point, so often called West Point. Or just Army.

Navy is the United States Naval Academy - USNA, or just Navy.

Some people also refer to Navy as Annapolis, but typically that's limited to people in the Navy/military. As in "I went to Annapolis".

The full name is Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, so there’s an argument for VPI or VPISU, but no. Call it that and no one will know what you mean.
