Stokes - Brookland is close to the metro and many buses have stops at the Station. Could be an alternative.

DCB is closer to a Metro station than the vast majority of DCPS schools and charter schools. Maybe Janney and Jackson Reed are closer to a Metro station? Agree that the walk is on the longer side for PK (at least if you were doing it every day, my kids occasionally did the walk in PK), but for older kids it is NBD. DCB often takes Metro for field trips and the entire class walks from school to Fort Totten.

However I would echo that driving in that area is not advisable at commute times. Unless you are already going by it, I would not recommend driving your kids to DCB or Bridges/Briya. That area gets really backed up and should be avoided if you can

That area is so busy. Much higher risk of accidents car and pedestrian.

I don’t know if I would even let a 10 year old walk by themselves with no adult supervision from the metro to school and crossing all these crazy, congested, busy streets. I would walk with them and then go back. If the walk was in a residential area without much traffic, that would be different scenario and situation.

You literally don't have to cross even one street to get from the Metro to DCB, Bridges, or Briya. Not one.

Lol yeah this is spot on, I don’t think anyone was suggesting a child do that walk on their own, but it is a very easy and safe walk. If you take the shortcut through the community garden, it is basically through a residential street. Very doable for a 4th grader - in fact it’s shorter /easier/safer than the walk that all the Latin kids do starting in 5th grade.

I still maintain that taking the metro to dcb would be an annoying commute for prek, and the only really easy way to get there is e-bike - but this point about the walk being “dangerous” is crazy

It usually takes me about 10 mins to walk from Fort Totten to DCB. I typically bike, but when I do the drop off line coming from west of the school, I usually avoid North Capitol and take New Hampshire Ave to Missouri/Riggs. It's not ideal, but the traffic isn't so bad that it adds 15 minutes in that area (outside of ice driving hell).

I’m looking at the map and it is not right there. What is it a 10-15 minute walk from there to school?

It's closer than most schools are to a metro. Much closer.

Question hasn’t been answered. So it’s more than 10-15 minutes walk from metro then.

Goggle map says it’s about a 10 min walk. So parents are parking at metro then walking their kid to school and back to metro so that would be an extra 20 minutes on top of the commute then.
