Jine 18th? What are K-11th going to do that day? Watch a movie? (Oh wasn't supposed to say that out loud?)

Because they didn’t do a good job planning and put only 1 snow day in the calendar even though we had 4 snow days last year.
Because they didn’t do a good job planning and there’s only 1 snow day scheduled in next year’s calendar.
Because they didn’t do a good job planning and didn’t didn’t submit the virtual learning plan for weather emergencies that Maryland requires, and that other school districts did prepare.

You sense a theme here…

Im going to give my 9th graders an exam worth 15% of their MP4 grade

Um, good for you. Did you want a prize or something?

Teacher isn’t going to do that. With attendance being so low those days she’d be asking for trouble.

She just wants you to know she is truly providing your kid an education that day and that there’s no shortchanging of education to your kid going on after that extra week of closure.

But it’s not true. Students are getting shortchanged

Nobody shows up on the makeup days. Teachers even tell students not to come because no work is done or assigned. They do nothing. My kid sent me a pic, there were 3 kids in class. 3!

Because it’s next week. Too soon. Changing next month’s schedule provides more notice.

Notice for what? No one planned to be out of school all last week, last week's lessons are starting to be used this week and will go into next week. Plenty of time.

Notice to supply chains to make sure our schools have breakfasts and lunches on normally scheduled off days. Notice to make sure building services and repair crews to move scheduled repairs and maintence issues that they planned to handle with nobody in the building.

There is so much more to operating a school system than just getting kids and teachers in classrooms.

It's not next week it's the week after. There are still 2 days to makeup, just choose those two and excuse everyone students and teachers who are out. Maryland unfortunately still requires 180 calendar days so they have to play the "makeup game". Instead of still having 2 mystery days which are probably June 22 and 23 not to mention there could still be more weather issues, just pick these two and allow everyone who has plans to keep them.

It's a 4 day weekend. Families have vacations planned. Use your brain.

Maybe families had planned vacation for March 20th too?

Worse. March 20th is Eid.

Calendar https://ww2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/calendar/index.aspx?calendarViewType=month&calendarDate=6/1/2026&filters=37&isAll=n&langId=1033&monthShows=1

says (before the adjusment)

Jun 17: Last day of school for students; early release day for students

Jun 18: Grading and Planning for the end of term

June 19 Systemwide Closure—Schools and offices closed

So, will Jun 17 be changed to full day?

Will the final teach day be moved to Jun 19 (Juneteenth!) to Jun 22?

There's no extra instructional day here. Teachers will maintain their original schedule, and kids will have free time on the 18th while teachers grade/plan.

So give excused absences for those who have vacations planned. Problem solved

Many teachers and staff are also planning to be away, and there wouldn't be enough subs.

But that's further down. Families have times to make adjustments. That's the point PP was making.
