Geez no. Please consult with a psychiatrist to discuss the full range of sleep medications and therapies. An OB prescribing gabapentin out of the box as the first line therapy for insomnia is totally wild.

I take 300mg nightly because my neurologist prescribed it as part of my migraine prevention.

I’m on hrt (estradiol patch and progesterone) also, but the gabapentin is what finally allowed me to sleep though the night without waking up at 3am every night.

I’ve been told it’s a low dose and it’s been around for decades, I’m not too worried about it.

I take it now for other reasons but only stick to a small dose. I don't have addictive tendencies but hope to wean myself off of it eventually.

NP. I was prescribed gabapentin for shingles recently and it definitely put me to sleep, and incidentally helped with my peri-related hot flashes too. But I only stayed in it for the timeframe of the shingles pain improving, not sure how long term use would be.
