I don't see any issue with FARMS going from 14 to 19%. As long as it's around 20, it won't be having any negative effect on school.

It will have a huge affect

More importantly I don’t want my kids driving to Crown period.

Good job MCPS closing one of your top performing schools fabulous idea

Time to move on.

Like was said by a PP, this solidifies the belief that the Wootton community doesn’t want “those” kids in their school and this posts proves that. FWIW, those 19% might teach you and your kids about children and families that aren’t in your economical circle. Open your eyes, hearts, and learn to accept diversity.

Agreed. It makes the most sense fiscally, especially when considering declining enrollment. They will get a brand new building and no need to open a 27th HS.

This Wootton whiner can’t wait to spend your taxpayer money in court. Great job proposing something the courts will say is illegal. But then again mcps sure does love wasting $ on lawsuits!

Just curious - what would be the basis of the lawsuit? What did MCPS do that was illegal?

Looks like Dufief will go to Crown. And Cold Spring will go to Churchill, which was supposedly overcrowded and why they had to move to Wayside... (didn't look to see if any current Churchill feeders got reassigned)

My guess is if a lawsuit is filed, MCPS will be forced to get more community input, perform more studies, and present its recommendations again in a few years. Crown will get filled by kids from Gaithersburg to justify building it. Wootton will get a few coats of paint, and the status quo will continue. In a few years, Crown enrollment will stabilize and Taylor will realize he needed Wootton as a permanent school after all. He will then take credit for everything that went well, deny responsibility for putting everyone through this mess in the first place, and retire to widespread applause.

Not if, when the lawsuit is filed.

From a job creation standpoint, this kind of stinks. I know any sort of talk of supporting teachers and staff here is typically frowned upon but MCPS doesn't have the teaching shortage that the rest of the country seems to talk about and the creation of a new school would have meant bringing in much needed new teachers to staff an additional school. It means a lot of our passionate recent teacher grads who wanted to make an impact in their hometown and communities are going to have to leave the area if they want to find work. It just really stinks when you look at it that way

Wow, what entitlement. Have you noticed that Northwest goes from 29% to 37% FARMS under H? And nearby schools like Gaithersburg are at 50%! And even though QO’s rate falls with option H, it is still lands at 23%. The rest of us are so over the Wootton contingent.

There were never enough students in the Crown/Rio area to fill the new high school. It would be over half emtpy so it was inevitable they were going to add additional schools as feeders.

And Taylor didn’t want his shiny new school filled with Damascus and Magruder kids as a holding school. Would make him look bad. So it’s now “add Wootton, instant success “.
