They didn’t go out of their way to find something DD would love. They are shoving musty crap without checking in first if she even likes furs or wants and needs a jacket.

Don’t mistake boomers unburdening themselves with crap as a grand gesture of thoughtful caring! It’s not! They are simply trying to make it appear magnanimous to feel good about getting rid of the item!

It's present in families in lots of forms. In ours it's that they are on FB too much (and think it's real) so they push visits that they are not interested in- they like the idea of family visits but they really prefer napping and their own activities to doing anything with kids. DH has finally seen the light. No, this time won't be different. It's a pattern.
They should have sent money if they really cared about DD having a coat.
