Rather than store it, consider donating it to a local theater company or drama department. That is the only place where it might actually get used.

They didn’t go out of their way to find something DD would love. They are shoving musty crap without checking in first if she even likes furs or wants and needs a jacket.

Make sure dd thanks them too and says she appreciates them thinking of her.

Then spouse can convey the message that it’s not her style (dd didn’t want to offend them) and ask what should be done with the coat.

OP here, thank for all the suggestions. They are not local and dd has a coat that she picked by herself last Fall. I laughed about the boomers comments in this thread, there is definitely some truth to it.. Will probably just thank ils and store it in the garage, they will likely not see dd again until Spring break or Summer anyway

Don’t mistake boomers unburdening themselves with crap as a grand gesture of thoughtful caring! It’s not! They are simply trying to make it appear magnanimous to feel good about getting rid of the item!

Another one for Team Boomers don't get to pat themselves on the back.

It's present in families in lots of forms. In ours it's that they are on FB too much (and think it's real) so they push visits that they are not interested in- they like the idea of family visits but they really prefer napping and their own activities to doing anything with kids. DH has finally seen the light. No, this time won't be different. It's a pattern.

They should have sent money if they really cared about DD having a coat.
