Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Neither. Forest Edge is pretty bad too unless you are in AAP. The only acceptable elementary school in Reston to me would be Crossfield.
You obviously have never been to Crossfield.
Honestly I would happily send my child to any school in Reston. Title I does not a bad school make. Hunters Woods and Sunrise Valley are AAP centers. Lake Anne has the dual immersion Spanish program. Hunters Woods is an Arts and Sciences magnet. And Terraset is just an amazing school.

Not a single family went to Dogwood - mainly St. Joes or pupil place into Fox orMill (Japanese immersion program in 1st grade) OR Hunters Woods (Magnet lottery in kinder). We ended up deciding to move as we hated paying so much in taxes to be zoned for a low performing school.
Hughes and South Lakes are fine - they are IB which may people do not like. Have a higher FARMS rate because of schools like Dogwood and Lake Anne, etc that feed into them.
Could be Freetown Dr or Stratton Woods.
Stratton Woods and Polo Fields are the same thing.
OP- Unless your child needs ESL services I would not send them to Dogwood. You have a few other options that someone mentioned above if you choose to buy a house there. Honestly unless you have to be in that location I’d push a smidge further out.
Stratton Woods and Polo Fields are not the same. I lived in Stratton Woods, which was not part of Reston Association and had its own HOA.
+1 I live in Polo Fields and it's not the same. It looks like it is because they named the park by Polo Fields Stratton Woods Park. That's because it's a county park and Stratton Woods isn't part of Reston Association. Also, Stratton Woods has one street of houses built by Ryan Homes bordering the parkway that are the same models as in Polo Fields, so it makes it look like one big cohesive neighborhood. The rest of Stratton Woods is a different builder with different looking houses.

Fox Mill would object to that. I don't know if Fox Mill is considered Reston or Herndon, since it is technically not in Reston or Herndon, but we are pretty happy with the school and are most certainly in the Reston/Herndon community space.
But we like being a smaller, neighborhood school with strong academics. I know some folks are not happy with the IEP services at the school but our experience was positive. We have friends who have not had positive IEP experiences for different reasons. The Japanese Immersion program was great for us. I know that not everyone loves the JI program, kind of like the AAP Center AAP/non-AAP split issues.
Anyway, just tossing out that Fox Mill is here, literally 5-10 minutes away from Crossfield and Dogwood.
fox mill has a herndon address. where would you say its located if not herndon?
