Thanks, to you and pp who spelled it out for me. I guess it’s a common term for Catholic schools in particular. All the (non-Catholic) schools I’ve been involved with use some form of parent/teacher association and I’d never heard of HSA except as a health savings account, which I knew wasn’t relevant. 😂

Plenty of non-Catholic schools use HSA, rather than PTA. It’s a matter of organization and fund-raising.

I’m the person you are responding to and nope, my kid’s school is far from Alexandria but also in northern VA. Zero affiliation but parent association acronyms tend to be similar-ish so it didn’t take a lot of critical thinking to see what it was referring to.

I just did a very quick google search to see if this was a state secret or something, and the very first result for me is a Google page that spells out the acronym.

And no, I don’t think it builds distrust to share draft information with people who have roles to fulfill on behalf of the school. At my kid’s k-8 parish school, our parent association is responsible for new family events + back to school events for the entire school community. Some of those include outside vendors like caterers, etc. I assume that in order to plan those things they need dates to plan against. I have zero cares in the world if that group knows information about the school before me.
