For in-state, don’t forget about Coppin State.

C/o 2024

Denied: UMDCP
Accepted: Towson, Salisbury, GMU, Pitt, UMBC, Delaware, Temple.

Ended up going to Towson due to fit/costs and is enjoying it. He originally thought he might transfer to UMDCP, but has decided he doesn't want to have to "start over" at UMDCP.

Rutgers is a much tougher admit.

Plus: distance and cost.
Not OOS.

Or reapply for the Spring and do 1 semester at cc.

I saw a suggestion somewhere saying that do not reapply a college that rejected you. It is not specifically for UMD. More a general suggestion.

That’s silly … I wouldn’t apply for the fall without some CC but most CC kids reapply and Spring is a different game.

I know a kid who was rejected UMD. Went to Towson for 1 semester while reapplying to UMD. Started UMD in January.

What about the University of Pittsburgh? It’s great!

If they are applying after 1 semester of CC they are probably considered a freshman and the application deadline is only Dec 1.

"If you are a high school student or student with fewer than 12 semester hours or 18 quarter hours of university-level credit beyond secondary school, then you are considered a freshman applicant. Take advantage of the following resources to learn more."

How do you apply as a spring transfer when the application deadline is likely before you even have any grades from your CC?

Weird to think you can't get into UMD instate but can get into OSU and Wisconsin OOS

Kids rejected at UMD College Park accepted in prior years at BU, BC, Northwestern, USC, UC's, Wisconsin, many SLACs, etc. These are the high stat kids at Ws and county magnet schools that get shut out because UMD won't accept too many kids from a single school. Surprising but true.

Son was not accepted to the University of Maryland, but was accepted to George Washington University, so that’s where he’ll be going.
