They literally threaten to fire us EVERY SINGLE DAY. I don't think anyone ever threatened to fire me at the university or in government. It's truly bizarre and unhinged. To me it's odd because there's literally no respect for anyone's qualifications or skills -- instead there seems to be this attitude like "We can just throw you back and get someone else to do that job." That's what scares me, I suppose. Is this truly the future of work in America?
There was this one ass at Dept of State who would always tell us how many people took the foreign service exam every year and be like "We could find another 100,000 people who would kill to have your job" but he was an exception. This seems more like the default in tech -- like "we'll just get rid of you and get someone else."

My friend works at a nameless tech company that recently closed a $5.6B govt deal and 2 of her team mates had heart attacks within the last 6 months at 38 and 42.

But American Psycho was intended as satire, not documentary. It is real now. Or more real.

We are Feds and have had a year of chansaws and jump scare firings, and we would have to immediately sell our house (we lined up a realtor in November), but we aren’t having heart attacks. But we can always move in with my mother across the country?
Are you precarious, where this job is all that is between you and homelessness?

Have you read about Wall Street? That is the culture of tech now, money and menace.
There are no checks on tech and it's full of egos, even more so than finance, which is why the Forbes 30 Under 30 is just a bunch of fraudsters.

I worked on Wall Street, at one of the banks that collapsed during the financial crisis.
