Anonymous wrote:I don't know how this will affect real estate prices in Tilden/Luxmanor area. But it seems Having WJ as a high school was a big plus for those neighborhoods. Houses in some parts of Potomac or northern part of Bethesda are priced similarly to Tildenwood/Old Farm, but you get to be in Churchill or WJ cluster.

Woodward will be a vastly different school than WJ.
Downward pressure will be there for sure. No one will pay the same price for attending WJ and Woodward if other things are equal.
I just don't believe it. Woodward will be a fine school!
Yes, fine but far below WJ. RM without magnet is fine school as well and based on all options of boudaries, Woodward will be same as RM without magnet.
WHy? it will be luxmanor kids. Better than Ashburton kids.
Seriously? These are kids and they are all wonderful. Jeez.

As WJ parents we knew this was coming for a long time. We thought creating 2 balanced schools and having Woodward mirror WJ was a given and were happy about it. Our kids will graduate WJ before Woodward opens but for the first time we are concerned about how this will affect our resale. We ate disappointed with this outcome.

Anonymous wrote:The below issues are also my concern for Farmland and Lux Manor. The current prices are inflated based on (old/current) school assignment to Walter Johnson HS, not the less desirable Woodward HS which will occur soon. Unfortunately or fortunately people don’t realize the negative impact this has the home values in these neighborhoods that have increase at a crazy rate these past few years. Too bad this will be the reason prices may finally come down.
POST 1
With the high FARMS and the art magnet, it will be an okay school—but not as desirable as WJ is today. We live in Old Farm, so our youngest will be able to finish at WJ, but knowing what we know now, we wouldn’t buy in this neighborhood given the Woodward change.
POST 2
What are you basing your opinion on? Could you elaborate? All the facts and numbers say the opposite. High FARMS, limited class offerings(art magnet), new construction apartments/townhouses in the area which are not factored in but will overcrowd it eventually) I don't see a single positive. Enlighten me? Tilden family here, and we are seriously considering to move.

Woodward = Current WJ < New WJ
