You don't call a person you love a fat wife. You say my wife who has weight issues. You don't ask her to loose weight, you ask her to eat healthy, workout and get annual medical check up.
I did try the bolded for over a year but she wasn’t getting the message. Finally I had to be more direct and it is working out much better

We owe an obligation to ourselves and our family to be in good healthy shape for so many reasons.
If he isn't helping out physically and emotionally, she'll be unhappy and overwhelmed and vice versa. Happy marriage and fair division of work gives people a chance to focus on themselves.

Pp here. I like this. DH and I have a fantastic marriage and always have. I hope our teenage son sees how DH treats me (and how I treat him) and makes a good partner some day.

Do you make it possible for her to go to the gym? My friend has a DH like you and he always made comments about her weight and appearance. And yet he never could be bothered to watch their 2 little kids so she could actually go to the gym.
