In for International Relations, MCPS 4.0/4.9, 12 AP classes, 34 ACT, visited and had reasonably strong Why Wisconsin essay.

This looks like yield protection.

Did you visit? My high stats kid was accepted, but we visited and he wrote a really good “Why Wisconsin” essay.

NP. Above 75th percentile for admitted students, typically.

Never stop the cope.

This. What’s the explanation for the same or higher stats kids they did accept?

I believe it’s yield protection. My kid is in with high stats and a personal connection to Madison. That makes my kid more likely to yield than a kid with the same stats and no connection.

I feel like UMich did this year. Scrolling through forums/reddit, I see a lot of high-stat kids getting deferred EA. My friend's kid recently received an offer from Cambridge but got deferred from UMich. The trends this year are weird.

Historically, does WI end up taking a lot of kids who were deferred EA?

OP. In for Econ. MCPS. Very strong why Wisconsin essay (got a lot of tips from several Wisconsin alumni). High stat- 36 ACT and 4.9+ WGPA. Waiting for Ivy and IVy+ results, but happy to attend UWM.

Quite a few who got deferred mentioned they’re accepted by UMich EA…go figure!

What does this mean? One school's result ≠ indication for another

Both are great schools. But UMich is considered quite a bit more competitive to get into!
