I don’t think basis is private, the one in DC is a charter school

Basis Independent McLean (also called BIM, Basis McLean, and on this board just Basis) is a private school not related to the charter school Basis DC.

Sidwell's math curriculum is unmatched by most schools in the country (TJ parents, you're one of the exceptions, don't worry). You can't go past Linear Algebra, but the accelerated math track is brutally rigorous and difficult, and weeds out tons of otherwise talented kids. The IQ in those accelerated math classrooms is through the roof.

If you only care about getting as far ahead in STEM as possible, I agree with the PP that you should aim for a public magnet.

Potomac’s SERC program for STEM is very good, but also serves a tiny numbers of students. There is a cap on how many students can do SERC per year and that cap is very small.

Hyper-competitive for existing Potomac students to get accepted into SERC. The school is not crystal clear exactly how those decisions are made.

Potomac would be better school for STEM students if they would greatly increase the number of students in their SERC program.
