On Tuesday there were a lot of people who were snowed in. On Wednesday some were still snowed in. By Thursday most people had their streets plowed (which may have blocked their driveways again but folks can clear that). Those that could not go to work due to snow or lack of childcare used their leave or lost income. But society didn't stop, something you benefited from.

Libraries provide a place for people whose power is out or who are unhoused to get warm. They should be an early priority in an event like this.

I have serious health issues. I’m not risking driving in bad weather.

If there is a new policy why don't they tell everyone instead of making everyone scramble the morning of when they decide high schools are safe but child care can't possibly open?

I've only heard this third hand so I can't vouch for its accuracy, but if true reportedly a central office staffer had a bad fall on ice a couple years back when offices were open (but schools closed) and threatened to sue.

Quite the opposite. I've gotten auto responses from CO staff explicitly saying they're not working. e.g.,

Due to the inclement weather, MCPS schools and offices will be closed on Wed., Jan. 28 and Thu., Jan. 29. I will address inquiries when I return to the office.
