Well, you assumed my age. I'm way past 50, hence the dilemma.

I am a 50 year-old woman. I bought myself "forever" diamond stud earring for my birthday this year. They are 1.4 cttw with very high quality specs. They sparkle so much and I adore wearing them everyday. I have robust savings and am careful about my splurges. At some point you have to live and enjoy life; these earrings will get plenty of value.

Prior to this I wore a 0.75 cttw pair that I bought in my early 30s when I got my first job that allowed me to not live paycheck-to-paycheck. I will give those to my daughter when she turns 16 or high-school graduation.

Wear what you like. Don't spend money on fine jewelry if artificial is just as good for you. But know in the end that money is money -- both fine and artificial jewelry make little money back, so if you want value for your dollar, use it towards experiences, healthcare, etc.

It’s not about 50 being old, it’s about the reluctance in OP’s tone. She doesn’t say she loved a piece of jewelry, she didn’t write she didn’t have enough and now has the money, she didn’t write it’s something she values. So posters are responding to her tone: someone who doesn’t seem much into gold jewelry and her only motivation is to buy to pass on, and she’d be compromising health spending or travel, then in her case maybe it’s not best to as op expressed “waste more money on jewelry” . It’s not about OP’s age but the specifics of her post.

Jewellery isn't very valuable unless it is 18k gold. And then, generally just for the price of gold.

I could never afford it when I was younger so now I have money to buy things I like, plus I go out more and have places to wear it.

Just do what makes you happy.
