Dress will also be used for sorority rush and other formal events. I can see how your daughter might need a cheap dress for one time use, though!

Try V Chapman's site and/or stores that carry that brand. It really depends on what your DD is looking for, but we learned when we were looking that there isn't much of a niche for quality prom dresses. Most of the higher end formal wear is marketed to older women, who generally eschew the prom aesthetic.

We got DD's dress from Needle & Thread---it was beautiful, but it's a more romantic and low-key look that won't appeal to teens looking for glitz and glam.

These are gorgeous! I don’t see too many options I think would be appealing to a teen, but for my 40 yr old self, I like them

The skimpy short prom dresses are not in fashion anymore. For hoco yes but not for senior prom. My daughter’s prom dress was full length with beading on the top and tailoring. All of her friends also had full length mostly with full skirts (one had the long slip dress style).
Also my daughter has worn hers again— to a college formal. She’s worn her hoco dresses at least 3-4 times, and I’m glad we bought one that was a little nicer than the standard disposable hoco dress (she has one lace one from lulus and another one that’s like a skater style from Macys so nothing crazy but they are decent).

It’s funny because I feel like we were spending 150 in the 80s on dresses that weren’t even designer or anything. And that would be like $400 today. But all the cheap imports have really brought down the price of dresses.


The price has also come down because the internet has made it such that there is a huge used market through Mercari, Poshmark, depop, etc. and there is also a big rental market .

Not online but Signature in Georgetown on Wisconsin was amazing for prom dresses. My daughter and I had a wonderful experience there last year - so much fun!
