exactly.

If you go to a T10, it doesn't matter what you major in. OP hasn't stated if their DC goes to a T10.

Outside of that, without further education (masters, Phd), 99% of history majors with just an undergrad would not earn very much.

This is a pretty normal degree. Are your children in the trades?

It's normal for people who want to go into law, politics, or be baristas.

I was a history major (double in psychology); I went to law school. DH was a history major; he went into journalism. DD was a history major (switched from stem her sophomore year): she did get internships and worked at a think tank one summer and as an intern in A Senator’s office); she went on to get an MPhil in history, now finishing DPhil in history at Oxbridge and is an accepted to law school. Best of luck! Any questions? I loved being a history major. My only caveat is that you have to enjoy writing and write well.

If they don’t have it, they will just have a fine piece of paper after they graduate, nothing more

That's true of every major.

A history major teaches you to think critically, see patterns over time, learn about cause and effect, research effectively, and write really well — all very valuable skills for a huge variety of jobs and ones employers recognize and appreciate.

Well, I generally think history and philosophy majors are the best writers - better than English majors.

History majors are generally more thoughtful than political science majors. Could do a lot worse…

It’s very helpful to be able to write well and make sense of lots of information. I’d be thrilled if my kids wanted to major in history.

+1
Some top consulting firms actively look for History and English majors.

My father did. Joined the Army. Went to law school. Opened to firm. Became a judge.

Majoring in History can be a great start
