I just got to look at the player card from his MSI Classic Team
It is a USYS logo in the background with my sons phot on the right hand side
then it says the following
MEMBER PASS
STATE: MSI CLASSIC League
Name: XXXX
Birthdate: XXXX
Team:XXXX
Season: XXXX
ID:XXXX
EXP:XXXX
It doesn't say Rec or anything which makes me think this probably can be used for EDP tournaments
While I don’t think this matters because (1) if it’s the Classic team playing in a tourney, the coach/manager/admin should be figuring out what they are submitting for cards for tourney check in and (2) you should be able to use the USYS card from the EDP team to play in the tourney (though some tourneys have the rule that all cards must be issued by the same org, USYS or US Club), the card you describe doesn’t sound quite right unless USYS travel cards have changed in the past season or two.
USYS cards issued by MD teams have “MYSA Official Travel Card” across the top and are stamped with an MYSA approval/season year and signature. They also don’t have a “state” field, they have an “association” field (which is the state, MD or VA; and how does MSI Classic League make sense as a state?). Your card is also missing “level” (eg travel) and “age group” fields.

I'm still warning you if you do this behind your EDP club's back it can backfire. Not always, but please keep it in mind.
I appreciate the warning but is it really going behind another teams back when you paid almost 3K? You have attended every practice and played in all of their games? My son also happens to be a good player who if anything has helped build their program?
What business is that of theirs if my son decides to play in a tournament if his main team has nothing going on during the weekend?
Anyhow, I already told them he plays for an MSI Classic team but that their practices and games take precedent. I'm not going to ask for their blessing for my son to play soccer.
But I do appreciate your warning. If they have a problem we can leave.
