What happened at Sidwell was some parents complained about other kids in the school and were vilified in the press for it. It was seen as undermining to give their own kids a leg up in admissions. We aren’t there so don’t know details. But honestly if kids are regularly cheating for grades, I get it. That is super frustrating. Recently at DCs school a relatively poor student won a big award for a contest test. Known by other kids to use AI on tests and there was no monitor walking around. It’s stuff like that that really gets me going.

This is not accurate. It is my understanding (from press accounts and the letter issued by the HOS - we were not there), parents were anonymously calling the college counseling office to make unverified (and presumably false) claims about other students, as well as sending anonymous envelopes containing the same, in order to increase their child's chances of receiving better recommendations, assistance, etc. It wasn't that parents "complained" about other kids or reported cheating. The parents guilty of that behavior deserved to be vilified for their actions. It was widely reported. Perhaps you should take a look before you make statements such as above.

In MCPS, the teacher has access, on their computer, to every student's screen, and can lock various internet sites at will if they see that some students are using them, whether it's in class, or during a test.

But it might just be easier to have extra proctors walking about, no? Seems obvious. During AP testing in May, tables are placed in the school gyms, set far apart, and adults walk about, checking on laptops. I think the College Board has their own app, Bluebook, that has cheating protections as well.
