There are a few charities that will transport donated clothes to Ukraine. The winters are super harsh there, and heating to apartment blocks is controlled by the government, but Russian attacks regularly take out heating in entire blocks for weeks at a time.

Many of those people would LOVE to wear your mother's furs, maybe even indoors when heat goes off. Fur in that part of the world is practical because of the cold, and maybe someone needy would be super grateful to get them.

One charity is Hope for Ukraine, but I know there are a few others you can google.

This would ensure that the furs are actually going to good use by people who truly need them.

I was thinking of making mom’s mink into a dog bed. He’d love it.

My mom donated her two full length fur coats to a local high school drama department and they love them. They used to be such a grandiose status symbol, I know she was sad to let them go

I’ll take them seriously. My DD just bought a fabulous one. She’s in NYC and it’s pretty common.

Seriously, if you have vintage clothes that you want to get rid of or possibly sell, let’s hook up.

Bury them in the back yard.

I doubt that very highly. When a fur store closes they liquidate everything at 70% off. There is a narrow market for new furs, let alone old furs. Nobody under age 70 wears fur. It’s a tacky bygone era.

Jokes aside, we were in New York for New Year's and lots of women were wearing real furs - it was truly cold and they don't need to virtue signal on Park Avenue so they dressed for the weather.

You might have also seen my daughter in law. She bought her amazing fur coat in Goodwill for < $100.

I wear them. And I’m vegan! But I can’t stand the thought of them being trashed. I didn’t buy them, but it seems like the animals died in vain if they are not used.
If there are too many and you won’t wear them, donate them to a thrift store.

Thanks for the suggestions. My nieces wouldn’t touch them though, they are an assortment of vegans and such.

Also, do you have any suggestions for giving away clothes in general? My mother has a lot of stuff but it’s mostly for older people. She was a dresser in her day and has a lot of fancy stuff. She also never got rid of my dad’s clothes so I have all that to deal with too. He was also a dresser so there are a lot of suits, blazers etc.

If you were in NYC, I would suggest a few places. If you are looking to donate, are there any thrift shops by you that benefit cultural institutions or are known for a more curated selection? They’d know how to make the most off the fancy stuff (thinking of a DC equivalent of the NYC opera thrift shop).

Consignment. Vintage fur is fine. The DMV is a bit too warm for fur, IMO, but someone will buy them.
