You think you have the money to plan these things to fête yourself, but you kind of just said you actually don’t.
When did you even give birth, in your mid-40s?
For someone who is basically considering planning a small wedding for your birthday at your age, shouldn’t you already have healthy 529s for your children in the background?
If you are still “saving for college and retirement” then you don’t actually have the money you want to say you do for stupid stuff like “yay me” parties.
My goodness the judgement! Not everyone has it as easy as you do. Geez! My husband grew up in poverty. We have a special needs son. We are doing great, but not without some hurdles to jump and THAT costs money. so no, i don't have much saved for college. I'm 50 and we try to go on big trips once a year and figure the experience will help my kids. Community College will be fine.

Could do something fun like host a big party (60-75 guests) in my backyard or at a venue.
Smaller gathering with a few family and friends
Girls’ trip somewhere
DH has also offered a trip to somewhere I’ve never been, in the US or abroad.
I don’t know what I want and I’m not sure how to narrow the choices. I have a summer birthday.
Money is an issue — we have some
Money but not tons to do huge “money is no object” trips and parties. We are saving for college and for retirement.
Fellow 1966 person here! Happy Birthday in advanceWe are taking a family trip to Iceland next summer to see the solstice. My birthday is in the Fall so probably will just have a dinner out on the day. But I don't like big parties
What did you do? What would you do?

You went to Brazil to see him? There are so many other more fun things to do while in Brazil.

Since op said money is an issue, I would prioritize traveling with my husband rather than friends.
That’s cute. You’re not 60 I’m guessing.
