I heard that something like 30% of the undergrads at UCLA are premed and I know that the clubs and classes are incredibly competitive. Makes me think that you might be better off going to a smaller school for premed for good med school admissions.

It is important for physicians who want to do research or otherwise stay in academia, and is also very helpful for those that want to go to industry/consulting.

It’s also a very rewarding experience to see top physicians in action - they are usually not there for the money, and I think it is good for our young people to watch smart teams that will not tolerate mediocrity interact to improve, innovate, and push patient care forward.

I guess if money is your be-all-end-all then a top 20 med school isn’t “useful”. So, yes, I would take free or cheap tuition over a top 20 med school any day; however, I would shoot for a top residency because it really is impressive to watch the elite teams in action.

And I agree thar doctors have plenty of flaws, but in general, as a patient, I do want a smarter better trained doctor who isn’t lazy and isn’t in it solely for the money.

DCUMers will still brag about their kids' Williams, Pomona, UVA etc. which is increasingly becoming worthless every month.

Most of the college degrees are becoming worthless for sure including top universities. Plenty of unemployed Harvard, Stanford and MIT grads.

It used to be you needed both human resources and capital - now (within 5-7 years) you mostly just need capital with perhaps 5-10% of the human resources of past years.

Exactly. Even HYPSM degrees are useless at this point. Stop boosting worthless degrees and focus on skills and experiences that can be augmented with AI agents. There are already several ONE man unicorns starting to emerge already effectively utilizing AI/AI agents.

I do not like the rise of the AI but I like the fact that the few jobs that are/will remain will be based on competency, skills, and relevant experience not what college, what race, what State/area, legacy status etc.

LAC boosters have found another way to keep boosting. The Era of college degrees and name brand colleges is over. Degrees will not be important or the brand names on those degrees.

There will be jobs to build data centers and their power plants so aim for those and that's about it.

Further, medical schools that U.S. News does evaluate appear in unranked tiers and in two categories. The Research category, for example, includes 16 medical schools in Tier 1, a figure that does not match that of 25 in the topic title.

For most attending an elite medical school, it’s a reason to be bitter. I know several people who went for the prestige college and now get paid exactly what every other doctor in their practice who attended a range of medical schools gets paid. They resent that the job rewards the credential, not the college.
