Swanson, applied 10/30, accepted 12/4, honors 12/5 -- no merit yet

Choosing to think all of our high-stats no-merit-yet kids aren't hearing yet bc they're in the "maybe" pile for Chancellors

just received award notice - $20k/year

Mine received $20K OOS Engineering. It’ll still be more than VA Tech-but at least makes it worth a visit now.

Kid's friends who applied to Pitt's engineering program received offers of 20K/year + honors college invitations.

This was back in the fall - early/mid November admission + honors + scholarship.

Please check the portal again. As far as I know, kid received no physical mail from Pitt.

This is correct. My child is in honors at Dietrich with 15k/year merit. He learned this from the Portal

I think max merit scholarship depends on the school- Engineering 20k/yr, Dietrich 15k/yr, and nursing $10k/yr.

It doesn't. For us, I felt they just want to make it competitive at an OOS option and make the cost closer to a student's in-state options. The highest we've heard are for engineering admits...20K/yr.

My kid got $15k (which I think is the max) with a sub-1500 SAT score and we are full pay.

IDK. It’s definitely not traditional financial aid, but Pitt was an innovator in the use of yield management algorithms to award merit. They use all kinds of random data.

What major/school? Although "dated" my son applied as an OOS CS major three years ago. 3.98/4.5, 1560, tour etc. Accepted but received no merit. Assuming a field with an abundance of applicants, its harder to get $.

I’m the OP. DD got accepted in Swanson school of engineering.

This was last year, but FYI, Pitt offered my DD another $10k (also Dietrich and honors) later in the year. If really considering attending, it may be worth holding off on accepting a bit

Is merit awarded after student accepts? DC was admitted but has not accepted.

No, they offer merit into try to convince you to accept.
