This happened to me too as a teen. I didn't realize it was a possible side effect of the pill, but being on it made me very depressed.

I have been on birth control in some capacity since I was 17, not always for sex! Helped my skin, fixed painful cramps, etc. Never had a problem with hormonal birth control. In contrast, my sister does not tolerate hormonal birth control and gained a ton of weight. We were actually just talking about this the other day and she said she doesn't talk about it a lot because she never wants to fear monger but she just doesn't tolerate it well. So, just keep an eye out. But most women tolerate it just fine.
