My son loves my chili, meatballs and sauce, pulled pork, and Kung pao chicken. He takes a few things of each of those back, along with some cookies, muffins, and homemade applesauce for his freezer. He especially likes to have them around exam time, and last year he got sick and said having homemade food in his room was great.

Does your family have any ethnic or traditional foods that your son likes? My parents used to send me back to school with a tray of empanadas. My college roommate still talks about that!

Hot Pockets

You can do a version of homemade hot pockets!

What’s your homemade version !!

I think I always wonder about the outer shell … insides are always easy

BTW my roommate in college had 5 older sisters and they sent her 7 layer bars

And she definitely noticed when I ate any of them and she confronted me about it

I gave 3700 a few years ago to her political campaign, I feel like I paid it back. Only state office don’t get all upset

She said they have a kitchen in a suite so I would assume full size fridge/freezer. Of course this won’t work if you have a dorm mini freezer that only fits some ice cream.

Costco has silicon freezer containers now.

1. Slow cooked pulled pork
2. Slow cooked shredded chicken with barbecue sauce
3. Bolognese lasagna
4. Chili
5. Muffins

My kid also has a sport so she took mini quest protein bars, almond packs, and protein shakes to keep on hand. She can eat one on her tight walk between class and practice.

I also gave my daughter a hard boiled egg cooker. She can make two and have them for added protein and its super easy, perfect for a dorm room.

Will the food stay frozen? Just make cookies or other baked goods that he likes. No need to go crazy. He's eating French fries every day.

I’m not asking for you to predict what my son likes. I’m asking for ideas for freezer friendly, dorm friendly food to send back to college- and what are types of foods people send with their kids at college. For example, maybe in one’s experience my idea of lasagna is ridiculous in a dorm, and cookies/brownies are the way to go. For the life of me I don’t understand why people respond to threads like you did - if you don’t like the question, just move on.

You asked what we thought he would find most enjoyable. That sure sound like asking strangers to predict what your son likes.

Hamburger poster here. I also would make a batch of breakfast burritos. Turkey sausage + scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese all rolled up in a tortilla. Add in whatever veg he likes. Wrap in seran (1-2 depending on on how many your DS would consume) and place in freezer bag.

Is he on the meal plan? Are the campus dining options reasonably good and somewhat varied? If so, I’d stick to treats, unless he has a particular favorite meal you want to send for comfort. If not, by all means send him something heavier. There are probably stores around, as well, where he can pick up frozen foods or deli items.

I’m sure that the college can provide him enough food for nourishment, whatever you send is more about love and emotional nourishing, and that depends on his preferences.

If it were me, I’d probably send him some treats and maybe cash/gift card for a local restaurant.

I sent mine with pumpkin muffins since breakfast is her tough spot You can freeze them and microwave individually to warm up.

I wouldn’t want to send in Tupperware for reheating due to microplastics in food. If you pack in silicone packets, you can pop out. Or I would do aluminum pans for stuff like lasagna if they have an oven. Or even freeze cold in ziplocks and they can just cut the ziplock off to defrost and heat. Homemade pasta sauces would work well in a freezer bag -/ like a bolognese. But just cool it before you put it in the bag. Chili would also work well. I bet you could also do shrimp scampi but I’ve never tried freezing that.
