There are several smaller hotels along the same strip as the Ritz and Seven Stars. They will be cheaper but will have fewer amenities, maybe just one pool, for example. Most come with kitchens and there is a high end grocery store across the street from the Ritz.

I’d look at a map to identify those places and then book one of those if you are willing to not be at a resort.

Ha. My observation is the parents of only children are swarmed by other kids, presumably because the multiple-parent children don’t pay attention to their kids.

Parents of onlies find families with other onlies and our kids play together. There are lots of only children so this works out. It has nothing to do with you so I don't see why you care. I've also been in the situation at a beach or pool where I wind up watching a kid playing with my child while that child's parents hang out with their other kids. I've never just left my kid to be watched by a other family because, in classic only-child-mom fashion, I am very protective and wouldn't feel comfortable with a stranger watching my kid.

Also: many of us are parents of onlies for reasons beyond our control and would have happily had more kids. So fuuuuuuuuuuuuck you and your judgment of how I choose to make sure my child has fun on vacation.

I’m in Turks now. We rented a villa on Taylor Bay, which is beautiful and quiet but not close to restaurants etc. The area on Grace Bay where the resorts are is busier, with shops and lots of restaurants nearby—sounds like what you’re looking for. The beaches and water here are amazing.

Also consider the 7 Mile Beach area of Grand Cayman. Similar vibe and beaches, but the island is more Americanized if that’s more your vibe. There is a large-ish expat community because of the banking industry there, so there are businesses that cater to it.

Turks you are paying for the natural beauty of the white sandy beaches and the bluest water you’ve ever seen. That’s just not available anywhere else. Grace Bay is pretty uninteresting as a town.

Mexico is more bang for your buck but you won’t have the white sandy beaches and crystal clear blue water.

With a kid, I’d opt for riviera Maya. So may more opportunities to complement the beach part with water park (xel ha - if I am not mixing up), cenotes, maya ruins, etc.
