People need to continue to fight the data centers because of the harm to wildlife and harm to water, air and soil pollution.. this in turn would impact the entire DMV region.

Yep, absolutely. PG is a big county. There certainly are some ghetto places in PG, just like there are still some hick places. There are also a lot of nice places.

People need to fight against the data centers. It will not benefit the county. It will drive up the power bills, bring noise pollution and air pollution. Don't make the same mistake Northern Virginia made.

100%. They don't bring more than a handful of jobs, either.

A conservative friend in Virginia is furious about data centers near him in Sterling. He said aside from being loud, one thing people don't know is how awful they are in terms of water. Data centers need to salt and otherwise treat potable water to get it below freezing temperature while staying a liquid in order to cool their servers. After this water cycles through, it is dumped, either into local water bodies or into sewers. If the former, imagine spraying your garden with "mineral-rich" water polluted with salts and heavy metals. What grows isn't going to be edible. If the latter, unfortunately our wastewater treatment systems are not set up to treat this water effectively. (Spoiler alert: no one's is).

Until data centers can be self-sufficient in terms of water use and much closer to self-sufficient for power use, they are awful for communities.

As a side note, one of the ways data centers use effluent water is to use its evaporative cooling effect on its other water. Some of you may be old enough to remember the negative health effects nationwide due to unleaded gasoline.

Regardless, PG County still has the lowest median income of all counties in the DC metro area, including the District.
