I do need to find the silk/satin scrunchie reference above. I am using covered elastic bands that are supposed to help with breakage, but I feel like I'm still getting breakage.

Regular scrunchies wont damage your hair or leave a mark of you do it loose enough like a high loose pineapple bun.

I got these at target and they do the trick. https://www.target.com/p/kitsch-ultra-petite-satin-scrunchies-6pk/-/A-91792296?sid=1854S&TCID=PDS-22204415039&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22204415039&gbraid=0AAAAAD-5dfZUoX_nHj6iwyJq6fHzNvwRP&gclid=Cj0KCQiA9t3KBhCQARIsAJOcR7wt09pPQZSuoW0iTaBMKW8Rkc-8ObYGULvWzV1_8hbdJJhEuVSWf2EaAruHEALw_wcB

I also do a ponytail that is not quite high or low, more in the middle. Not sure if this helps but if you do it too high you may bend the shorter pieces too much in the bun.

Everybody used to sleep in bonnet of some kind. "Ma in her kerchief and I in my cap." 1950s ladies in rollers under a scarf. Etc. If you couldn't wash your hair every day or if the style is really hard/damaging to achieve, you wore something protective.

I think it was only in the 70s-80s that (white?) people stopped, because hairstyles changed.

This. Also I put it in a high bun; hair is shoulder length.

Same.

I think my husband would crack up if I showed up in one.

It's how everyone has super long hair now. I recently went on a bachelorette trip and every woman there had a bonnet. We laughed and laughed about it. I'm not sure the older generations have caught on, but it seems like everyone under 40 wears a bonnet to sleep in. They're really comfortable. I can't stand the feeling of hair on my neck now when I sleep.

Yeah, ok.

I'm white FWIW, AA people have it right about these bonnets.

Doesn't the satin bonnets make your head hot? Satin doesn't really breathe. Also night sweats too if you're in your 40s-50s.

Mine might be silk, not sure. The outside is cotton. It doesn't make my head hot, but we do keep our house colder and run fans in the summer. I'm always cold, so I haven't ever had a night sweat.

I have fine thin hair thats shoulder length (recently cut really short for me). I got sick of fighting with at night and it makes my night sweats worse leaving it down. Ive tired the loose bun pineapple method and love it but I get migraines so it has to be really loose.

I am white with long straight hair. I do a bun and silk scrunchie and my blow out looks great for 4 or 5 days with no creases.

I brush my hair before bed and leave it free. Wavy, mid-chest length.
