You have several people who disagree with you that one size fits all. Different kids, different strokes, different body types. There is no one right thing here.

This is going to be body type dependent. My swimmer is smaller (5’5 and about 105 lbs) and not curvy and she had no issue with the closed back suit. It was recommended she try one when she turned 13 because her best events are back and breast and it’s worked out for her.

My swimmer is a backstroker and her coach told her to get a closed back suit. That was her first real tech suit. Her 12&Under performance suits were all open back. As for the closed back suit, she had zero issues with it. She eventually got an open back suit but rarely wears it and it is not her "good/lucky" suit.
