No group of kids or single neighborhood “defines the environment” and not wanting your kids to go school with some kids who are browner (and/or poorer) is just racism, which is actually the opposite of being fair.
Many really affluent parents — wherever they live in the county— don’t do public because they’ve convinced themselves rightly or wrongly private school is a good use for their money.
The overwhelming majority of parents don't care about the color of a kid's skin or their income. They do care about the behaviors (esp violence and disruptive behavior) that can accompany low income kids.
