I would opt for hybrid. I hate being solo or having DD drive long distances at night and have to find a charging station.

Tesla Y. Have had it for 2 years. The self driving has improved incredibly to the point where I no longer "drive" the car. It parks in my favorite spot at the gym, etc. It is getting constant updates so the FSD is really good (just got another update last night). I like that it kept me from hitting a dog on the road. I like that I no longer have to merge onto the beltway or anywhere because it does that. I like that I can use the app to get it heated up in cold weather. It is comfortable. We have taken it across the US and had no problems finding chargers (there are more every day). I like that I have not been to a gas station in 2 years. We have solar panels so not really "paying" for electricity, but I can see how that might be a thing for people on the grid.

I will never go back to an ICE car. I will also always pay for self driving.

Forgot to add: claims 370mi range; I don't think I get that in stop-and-go driving.

Zero-60 in 4.3 seconds = plenty FAST for me. Adaptive air suspension, tons of safety and driver assist features (ex: slows at stop signs, can park itself, on and on). But: too many screens, too much piano black. Audi has gotten the message and intends to simplify cockpits in 2027.

I've been driving my Bolt for about 5 years now and I absolutely love the car. I charge it at home at night and have had no issues with it at all. In the summer I can charge maybe 1-2 times a week in the winter it's maybe 2-3.

My spouse has the Rav4 Prime and the 45 miles is enough for his.daily commute such that he rarely uses gas mode.

Not OP, but looking at the Mazda C-50 hybrid and Hyundai Tucson hybrid. Anyone have either?

I have a Lucid Air. Love it. It has been on 3 roadtrips of 400-600 miles each and performed excellently. It gets about 400 miles to a single charge.

I had an id4 before. It had some quirks.

I started with a Prius Prime plug-in, which convinced me to make the switch to all EV. I also loved that car but the electric range was limited.

22 Toyota Venza- love it! Great gas mileage and smooth drive.

I drive a Toyota BZ4X EV. It’s a perfectly serviceable, inexpensive EV. It’s not a fancy car, and I think the name is silly, but it’s easy to drive and gets us where we need to go - and I like the relatively small size. It’s easy to park. The range is on the low end (about 225), but it’s perfect for running around town, commuting to our local Metro station, and driving to Frederick or Annapolis.

For actual road trips, we have a BMW X5 plug-in hybrid. My husband loves this car. Gets about 50 miles on a full charge, and even on gas I think the mileage is reasonable, given its size. I don’t like driving it because it’s an enormous boat of a car, but it is very comfy to ride in.

We have the Chrysler Pacifica hybrid minivan and have had it for about 7 years. It’s fine. We almost never have to put gas in it — only for long vacations. The panel screen sometimes randomly reboots which makes it a pain to turn on the radio or use backup camera when that happens but that’s maybe 1 or 2 times a month.

We also have a lucid that we got this year. It’s fine. The app isn’t great (previously had Tesla with a much better app(. I’m also irritated that it won’t remember that I prefer to not use regenerative braking (Tesla did) and also that we had to specially tell it to adjust the draw when charging at the house (it burned out our circuits because we didn’t know that we had to tell it this — Tesla knew automatically). It’s comfortable and drives well. The Tesla model 3 was better but I can’t pay money to feed the beast that is Elon so got the lucid instead.

Have 2022 hybrid Toyota Sienna Platinum. Is great! 34 mpg. 575 miles between gas fills. Bought used w 30k miles about a year ago for 50k out the door. Less fancy models are less cost. Toyota seems to keep production right in line with demand so can be hard to find particular models/colors etc. But they are usually number 1 brand for resale value.

Have a 2022 RAV 4 Hybrid XLE. LOVE IT! Great gas mileage, very comfortable, drives like a dream and no different than our other gas-only Toyota. Lots of storage in back, easy upkeep, passengers are always impressed.

BMW iX - gets about 250 miles on a charge (maybe more). Likes - it is very fast and I haven't seen a gas station in 3 years - I plug it in when I get home at night and it is fully charged in the morning. Dislikes - I still do not feel confident driving long distances because I have found many chargers don't work or take a long time to charge. Electricity prices have gone up and I didn't pay extra for an EV just to then pay more in electricity than I would pay in gas.

Tesla Model Y 2023. Like: I can keep the heat or AC on without running an engine, can preheat or cool the car from an App on my phone, not having to get gas (have a charger at home), it makes driving/parking easier with the full camera views, it can accelerate very quickly when merging into traffic.
Dislike: For family trips and and carpooling would like a slightly bigger car, suspension isn’t great on bumpy roads, the full charge doesn’t last as long as a tank of gas would so it’s not as convenient on road trips. Realistically it could go 200 miles before needing to charge.
