Meat is meat and sides are sides so put your sides with your meat and enjoy what you eat.

I'm not sure if this is a troll or not, but this seems so ridiculous. My family doesn't care about this sort of thing, as long as the food is good.

A LOT of people care about this sort of thing, and a LOT of guests would comment on this (both at the dinner, or in the car on the way home).

You have rude friends and family

Seriously. We don’t all have to be doormats because you have accepted it for yourself.

Wow. What a bunch of rude guests then, especially if they comment while at the dinner table.

I would say get some red meat, but that's because I don't eat ham. You said your guests are not picky though, so maybe it's fine.

Eh, just skip the mushrooms, every thing else goes fine with ham.

Yes. The real problem is someone promising to bring prime rib and then swapping out for a cheap ham. Which was probably mis-delivered to her house.

Thanks all! I'm not a great cook and I only host once a year, so my skill set w/ planning and cooking is not very good. Appreciate all the responses and ham it is!

No! Mushrooms are healthier, lighter and so much more appetizing than gross mac and cheese or corn pudding. Don't add more heavy carbs. There's already potatoes.

This sides are fine with ham, OP. Sucks your mom switched it up on you last minute but trust things will go well.
