That sucks, so it's either if you are thinking of switching you are offered without going to practice and have a one on one or your name carries where coaches know if they want you are not. Just feels like such a small community (soccer wise) everyone knows everything.
Two comments on this...
1. You should be taking your kid to multiple club tryouts every year no matter what. Never know there might be a pot of gold on the other side of the rainbow. The worst situation is your kid gets an additional practice. If anyone from your club calls you out on it tell them you didnt realize trying out at other clubs was an issue. Then ask if this is something you're not allowed to do. The answer your club provides will tell you everything you need to know about them.
2. If anyone gives you grief about trying out at other clubs just say that it's your policy to try out at different clubs every year to see whats available. When you say it this way its really hard for coaches to make trying out at other clubs uncomfortable. for you. Ironically I've had a coach pull this line on me once. He said that it's their clubs policy that current players only try out at their club every season and not others. I immediately said that it was our policy to try out at all the different clubs and have been doing it for several years and dont plan to change. The coach immediately backed down and tried to backtrack and reclarify what he meant.
Just some things to think about and a trick to keep in your back pocket.

Don’t be so sure of that. You might be surprised how frequently some of the directors and coaches at “rival” clubs talk.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Im not from the VA area but there is no way in my area kids that are bery good are going to go to a tryout and it stay a secret. There are lots of kids here, lots of clubs and lots of leagues. Easy to be on the downlow.

This is a much better approach than clubs hosting a one day try out with influx number of kids.
How do you keep it close? This town is small and words get out.

This sucks and is very real with mls. Also the coach who offered the position may end not to be the coach and all bets are off.
