This. you can find plenty of townhomes in this price range in the district. There are many townhome communities in conveniently located neighborhoods zoned for McLean or Langley (more for Mclean I believe) with townhomes of various sizes and levels of luxury and prices. for a 3 bedr TH you could find those under 1 mil.
Also you could rent an older home or a townhome for much much cheaper than price of ownership in the area, but it would be an older home. You could find remodeled ones that are livable even if basic looking. This way you could just own your permanent home and rent a place for less than tuition of 1 kid. Or you could even rent your place out and move to a rental in a school district.
All in all, living most of the time in your nice home so far away is not going to work for the reasons people listed already: commute will be horrendous, this area won't be served by school buses, so you won't be able to rely on your kids getting home on their own (which is super nice), activities with be a PITA, as are friendships. Also, there is a danger that you may get followed and figured out that you do not live at your investment property in the district, in which case your kids will be kicked out.
