Face tattoo.

Get a face tattoo so that she is noticed. This should avoid any future difficulties regarding attendance.

This happened to my kids a lot in middle school. They were absolutely there but marked as absent. I did nothing. It doesn’t matter. At all. Some schools such at taking attendance. Swanson looking at you. My kids are now in college and beyond.

My time is more valuable than this. I would not even bother to log in a mark it in the portal. Do you think there is some person or agency that is going to sit around thinking about this? Like, a college admissions officer has time to review the daily attendance records and be like “ah ha! Looks like this kid might have skipped third period 2 years ago! DENIED!”

+1 this happened to my son last year twice and both times I emailed the teacher and it was corrected. In my experience, the teacher has to correct it.

Agree with The Who cares contingency. But if you’re going to try to change it, the teacher has to have your kid’s back. From your post it doesn’t sound like the teacher does. The school won’t change it unless the teacher confirms your kid was present.

FWIW, my rule following kid has been known to show up to class after attendance was taken and marked absent because she got caught up with friends. It happens.

I would put together a detailed email so you have that record if needed. Beyond that I wouldn't spend time continuing to pursue it.

I would forward the email chain to the main office or whoever it is that supposedly can change it and ask them to change it.

If your child ever gets in big trouble at school, they can use all evidence they have to malign her. I learned this the hard way. Now I make sure the record is reflective of the truth. I just had a very similar situation, although the teacher remembered that my child was in class and the attendance clerk changed the record. If they are going to record all these details, I’m going to make sure they are correct.

So it’s on her permanent record? So it will follow her the rest of her life?

Who cares. What do you think the impact of this will be? It does not matter.

It’s a tool for you to know if your kid is skipping class. If you are confident she is not skipping class, stop thinking about it.

It’s not a big deal, but they should fix it. I’m a teacher, and I’ve done it by accident many times. Maybe meant to click on kid next to them, or they were late and I was busy teaching and forgot to go back and fix it.

If your kid generally had good attendance, you shouldn’t worry too much about it.

1) It can be fixed by admin
2) Who cares

Huh? Teachers can change it! My son emailed a teacher who marked him absent when he was there and corrected it when he pointed it out.

Was she there when attendance was taken?

I’m a high school teacher. I take attendance at the start of class. If your daughter came in later, I have to go back to my computer and change the absence to tardy (either excused or unexcused). Sometimes I have to do this 3-4 times a period if I have a lot of late students. On occasion, I forget to make the change. (In my defense, I’ve moved on to about 20 other responsibilities and 100 different things take my attention.) I’ll always change it to “tardy” when a student reminds me, though.
