Maryland really needs to build up their second tier universities (UMBC and Towson) Maryland- College Park is really their only non-suitcase school. If those two are the choices, Towson is more of a campus/traditional school while UMBC probably has better teaching (though Towson is fine too). Depends on the kid which they’d prefer- mine greatly prefers Towson, but is really hoping for UMD.🤞🏼
For STEM, UMBC is a better choice than Towson.

There’s a ton of construction on campus - good sign re $$$, and it’s top notch for STEM. Unfortunately there is not much green space on campus and no where to go from campus, in direct contract to Towson. Worth a serious look.
My DD went to UMBC and I am just here to say she had amazing teachers. Who went above and beyond for her- like a SLAC kind of deal. They recommended her for internships every summer, helped her get a fellowship after she graduated.
She got the highest merit aid offer at the time and I think we ended up paying less than roughly 12-15k a year for her to live on campus.
Good to hear. We visited once and weren't blown away by campus but planning to go back since likely to be my kids best fit for major and cost.
There are no green spaces on the campus? Like most college campuses?
Yes there are green spaces on campus.

Merit aid or a specific scholarship.
Merit. In state.

That information is readily available.
